Orthopodomyia signifera

Orthopodomyia signifera is found in most of the eastern United States, and parts of the southwest.  It inhabits tree holes and artificial water sources, preferring clear water. Although it is not known for sure, signifera probably overwinters as larvae.  It is not known to feed on humans.
